buddleia

The colours purple, pink, lavender and white permeate the garden here at downshifthingpath and one of my favourite occupations is to sit and watch the butterflies visit the buddleias. I think its a red admiral, not sure as I am only just discovering the beauty of these creatures,

I don't know the english name but in french they are called "paon du jour", which means "day peacock". They depend on nettles to grow (the caterpillars will eat nettles)... I really like their colours ! I see one of them every day here in my small city garden.

This is a Peacock Butterfly, so called because of the 'eyes' on its wings. I have seen very few this season. Also no Red Admirals or Orange Tips which I think is very worrying.
